Road safety and traffic calming measures are common concerns for residents.
While there may be speeding or road sharing issues on major roadways in the District, the majority of the speeding concerns are from residential neighbourhoods. These are areas where children are playing, so please be careful and watch your speed for the safety of your friends, family, and neighbours on the road.
Recreational users are reminded to be aware of their surroundings and try to stay to the right-hand side of the roadway.
A speed-reader board is placed in the community during the summer months, along with auxiliary police officers for enforcement in problem areas.
- Requests for traffic calming measures can be directed to the Infrastructure Services Department and they will be forwarded to Council during budget deliberations.
- Traffic calming is generally a physical barrier intended to reduce the speed of traffic or discourage the use of a local road in an effort to divert traffic onto the major roadways.
- Physical barrier traffic calming devices are used as a last resort when other measures have not produced results.
